Door-to-door campaigning rath yatras and public rallies have become passe.These days politicians in New Delhi are reaching out to voters through social networking sites.

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit was no exception to this trend. She launched a campaign on various networking sites where people could watch her videos on development work carried out by the state government in the past five years. And no prizes for guessing, the videos got 50 lakh impressions in three days.
   
The All-India Congress Committee (AICC) had hired a Mumbai-based company to design the online election campaign. The videos were posted on some of the most visited networking sites Yahoo, Google, Facebook and YouTube."We had planned videos on the development work carried out by the Congress government in Delhi and Rajasthan. I am happy that the Congress has won in both the states where we had helped in the internet campaign," said Atul Hegde CEO of Ignitee India Private Limited.
   
Hegde said since most people have accounts in social networking sites, the online election campaigns were a hit.
